The Statewide Prevention Coalition Association at Prevention Action Alliance is proud to bring you a six-session learning collaborative. From beginning to end, this course will take you through the basics of advocacy all the way to planning your own legislative strategy.
The collaborative consists of six mandatory virtual meetings as well as required homework. Space is limited, so be ready to fully engage with this course. Applicants must be able to attend all six sessions.
Participants will earn 12 hours of Public Policy Continuing Education from the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
The application period closes on October 16th. Participants will be notified if they’ve been selected to participate by or on October 23rd.
Week 1—November 6th, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Introduction to the legislative process, the basic functions of government, and governmental organization
Week 2—November 20, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Understanding the procedures of the General Assembly
Week 3—December 4, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Preparing to advocate: Researching legislation
Week 4—December 18, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Advocacy in action: Testimony structure, how to make calls, write an op-ed, organize a press conference, and more
Week 5—January 8, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Legislative strategy: Behind the scenes at the Statehouse
Week 6—January 22, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
