Start Recording & Start Talking video contest finalists
Prevention Action Alliance and the StartTalking! prevention program, with support from Verizon, challenged Ohio’s students to create videos designed to get parents and children to have frequent and honest conversations with each other about drugs.
More than 130 students from all over Ohio participated in the contest, and a review team pared down a list of finalists. The first place winners split a $2,500 prize, second place a $1,500 prize, and third place a $1,000 prize.
Research shows when parents and children have conversations about substance misuse, the children are up to 50 percent less likely to start using drugs and alcohol. 1st place winner
“Heroin’s so bad. Why do people take it?” Would you know what to do when your child asks this question? “It Starts with a Question,” by several youth at Genoa Area High School, made this video to help you start talking with your children.
2nd place winner
