Ohio Comes Together to Tackle Alcohol Misuse at Every Life Stage

Prevention Action Alliance held its 4th Ohio Alcohol Misuse Prevention Conference in March, bringing together 100 prevention professionals, educators, community leaders, and industry partners from across the state. This year's event showcased the continued evolution of approaches and a shared commitment to reducing alcohol misuse throughout the lifespan.

With the theme “Prevention Without Age Limits: Tackling Alcohol Misuse at Every Life Stage,” the conference identified how alcohol misuse at all ages affects Ohio communities, and emphasized practical methods to use at every phase of life.

The conference was proudly sponsored by OHLQ, whose ongoing partnership continues to strengthen alcohol misuse prevention efforts statewide.

“We are proud to partner with Prevention Action Alliance for the conference for the fourth year,” said Brian Hoyt, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Ohio Liquor. “This partnership not only reflects our commitment to responsibility and mindful consumption, but it also gives us the opportunity to learn from and connect with prevention professionals across Ohio.”

The keynote address was delivered by Rick Collins, Project Director at the Hawai‘i Public Health Institute, who spoke about the power of policy to reduce alcohol-related harm. He highlighted how environmental factors shape alcohol use and how communities can drive change by leveraging evidence and collective action while navigating the political and social challenges of alcohol policy.

“It was inspiring to see communities and organizations move beyond awareness into action. This conference lit a spark of hope for what Ohio can achieve when we unite to create lasting change and build safer, healthier communities. We know what works to prevent the harms of alcohol in society, and I saw those in attendance willing to put evidence into action.”
