DBT Skills in Schools: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Elementary (DBT STEPS-E) is currently in development and scheduled for release in early 2025. This curriculum is a universal social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum designed for elementary students in educational settings.
The DBT STEPS-E curriculum is being designed to help children develop coping strategies and decision-making abilities under emotional distress. It is based on the skills of comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which has been shown to be effective with both adults and adolescents experiencing mild to severe levels of emotional and behavioral difficulties. This curriculum is adapted from DBT STEPS-A and is currently in development.
The training design of the DBT STEPS-E curriculum is to establish four basic elements necessary for implementing the curriculum effectively:
- Background and Development of the curriculum
- Structure and Implementation Considerations
- Overview and demonstration of lessons
- Preparation and participant practice of teaching lessons
The total number of participants will be limited to 80.
Training materials will be made available to registrants at least one week before training.
