Parent(s) and other adults’ model positive, responsible behavior.
- Young people naturally turn to the adults in their lives for stability, strength, and support in times of confusion or chaos. During the COVID-19 pandemic do your best to keep calm. Model mindfulness techniques like body scans or sustained breathing to help when you are feeling stressed, frustrated or angry.
- Children watch (and mimic) everything we do. Be careful to not aggrandize unhealthy coping methods including alcohol and be cautious about how you respond to a child’s mal-adaptive behavior.
