Practical Principle: Planning and Decision-Making

Young person knows how to plan ahead and make choices.

Guiding Growths

  • For younger children, use the “stop light” analogy to help them understand decision-making. Draw a stop light and use the colors (red, yellow, green) to help them “stop, think, and go forward” with all decisions they make.
  • Ask your high school or college-age child(ren) about something they want to do, like take a trip, buy a car, or finish college, and then talk with them about the strategic prevention framework. Have them use the SPF flower and work with them to help accomplish the desire.
